Tricks

Through the years, Trick Dogs that we see in the movies have won peoples’ hearts; Trick dog training has become a fun new area in dog training today. As you work through learning the tricks, you might consider testing for the 5 AKC Trick Titles.

Tricks are simply behaviors, and learning these behaviors puts the dog in a learning-to-learn mode. Tricks are behaviors that can be done for entertainment such as “say your prayers,” physical activity (such as weave poles or spin), or as useful practical skills (e.g., “paws up” so the dog stands with front paws on a stool to raise his head for petting by a patient in a hospital bed). Trick dog training often involves the dog getting physical exercise but also a lot of mental exercise as well.
Basic Manners or equivalent obedience classes (that do not use prong, choke, or shock collars) is a prerequisite. An Introductory class will be held on Tuesday, September 2 at 6:00 pm. You will be able to choose the tricks that you want to complete after taking the Introductory class and you will be given the trick list with the dates that the tricks will be taught. Every 10 weeks another Novice class will start with an Intermediate/Advanced class following.
A package of 10 classes will be available to purchase for $200, and you can use those credits as you choose, or each individual class will be $25. To earn the AKC Novice title, your dog must perform 10 tricks from the AKC Novice list or if your dog has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate, you can do 5 Novice tricks (CGC + 5) to earn the Novice title. Testing for a title will also be available when you feel your dog is ready.
Class size is limited to 8 dogs per class so contact PAWZ today to register.

Anyone who misses a class will have the responsibility to communicate with the instructor and schedule a make-up session. Classes will not be held during times when PAWZ Enrichment Center is closed and will either be rescheduled for a different day during the week according to student, instructor, and/or building availability or delayed until the next scheduled class.
